Preclinical Services Technologist

Comparative Medicine Services (CMS) at Tufts University in downtown Boston has an opening for a Preclinical Services (PS) Technologist. This position is part of an expert veterinary team that provide hands on services for in-vivo research studies at Tufts University. Studies include cutting edge surgical device development, pharmacological and drug therapy studies, basic research, and teaching and training labs. This is a mid-level veterinary technologist position with room to grow into our senior PS technologist position (also available for less experienced candidates is an associate technologist position). The PS technologists are responsible for coordinating and performing some or all of animal research projects. Join our team to be an integrated part of transformative research from study design client meetings to study execution, to post-study customer feedback and study review composition. The PS Technologist will perform procedural care for both rodent and non-rodent models including surgical assistance such as suturing and basic surgery, laparoscopic assistance, anesthesia, and post-procedural care. They will assist in study development and coordination, inventory, ordering supplies, protocol writing, and generating estimates and study sheets for proposed work; and of course, animal (and staff) enrichment activities. Other work may include tissue harvest and use of laboratory equipment including centrifuge, microscopes, etc. Tufts University provides safety trainings and supports continuing education and AALAS and ASR certifications including a bonus incentive program. The candidate for this position must have a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Science or Technology, Animal Science, Biological Sciences, or related field and 1-3 years Veterinary Technician or laboratory animal medicine experience. AALAS certification is recommended, and the technologist will be required to achieve Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification within 3 years of employment, AND/OR demonstrated equivalent experience; excellent written and verbal skills; detail oriented and superb organization skills; the individual must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and be capable of functioning independently with minimal supervision.
