The Research Associate 1-B/H designs, executes, and manages research projects conducting preclinical studies in a foundational (basic) biological/health science research laboratory in the Target Validation Shared Resource core facility.

This position will support the TVSR Core lab with its primary focus as an outsourced research lab for Primary Investigators. The ideal candidate will have strong wet lab and animal (mice) experience.


  • Designs, executes, and manages research projects conducting preclinical studies in a foundational (basic) biological/health science research laboratory
  • Conceptualizes, designs, and executes complex laboratory experiments
  • Plans and executes advanced molecular, cellular and animal techniques
  • Plans, coordinates, and oversees processing and analysis of data
  • Analyzes and interprets research data
  • Develops and implements new and/or revised research methodology and techniques
  • Plans and tests experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods
  • Collaborates with core director to develop and implement goals and objectives of studies
  • Develops and establishes research controls, criteria, and standards


  • Performs critical analysis of literature relevant to research
  • Collaborates with core director to prepare posters and presentations for core services at local and national conferences and workshops and in writing of project reports, articles and other documents.
  • Attends local and national scientific conferences, workshops, and seminars to acquire new skills, techniques and knowledge to support and expand core lab services.
  • Prepares and submits data packages and research progress reports to sponsors


  • Monitors core lab expenses and explores supply chain alternatives for cost-saving
  • Monitors and enforces laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, as well as local, state, and federal regulations, including, but not limited to record keeping and proper disposal and maintenance of regulated materials
  • Trains and/or supervises research staff
  • Manages daily operations of the laboratory
  • Oversees and initiates the procurement of lab supplies and equipment
  • Provides technical assistance and supervision of equipment
  • Negotiates and oversees equipment service contracts and repairs

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate Biological/Health Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Two years’ experience in a biological/health research capacity, specifically animal studies, is required
  • Requires successful completion of a background check
  • Qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate Biological/Health Science
  • Experience working with mouse models of cancer especially hematological malignancies is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with flow cytometry techniques is encouraged
  • Must be extremely comfortable working/handling mice and performing survival surgeries
  • Familiarity with cell-culture techniques is desirable

Additional Information:
This position requires work be completed on campus in the lab 5 days a week and cannot be performed remotely.
