We are seeking a Surgical Scientist for our Surgery & Efficacy department, site located in Mattawan, MI.
A Surgical Scientist is responsible for supporting the Surgery and Efficacy department by performing major and minor surgical procedures, including model development, study set-up, procedure completion, post-operative follow-up; and for providing mentorship and training to Associate Scientists and staff. The individual in this role may supervise others and may also function in the role of a Contributing Scientist or Principal Investigator, responsible for the development of applicable protocols/plans in accordance with study-specific procedures, company standard operating procedures (SOPs), industry regulatory guidelines, and budgetary guidelines as business/scientific needs require.
The following are minimum qualifications related to the Surgical Scientist position:
Education: Graduate of a collegiate veterinary technology program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Training Activities, equivalent program in veterinary technology, or Veterinary degree (D.V.M./V.M.D.) or international equivalent
Experience: 5+ years related experience working with animals in a pre-clinical laboratory or clinical setting; experience working in a CRO with multi-species preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute of above.
Certification/Licensure: SRS certification from the Academy of Surgical Research or equivalent required: AALAS certification at LAT or higher level preferred.
Other: Must have demonstrated surgical expertise with a variety of animal species with a focus on non-human primates, rodents, rabbits, pigs, and small ruminants. Experience working in a regulatory controlled environment, adhering to SOPs.
Experience in a GLP environment preferred. Excellent organizational skills, especially with time management and record keeping. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to lead independently. Must be proficient in the use of computers. Must be able to work independently. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
