Position Overview

PRA Surgical is seeking a highly skilled Small Animal Surgeon to perform rodent and small animal surgical procedures in preclinical research settings across the United States.
This is a hands-on, travel-based role for an experienced surgeon who thrives in dynamic environments and is passionate about delivering high-quality, reproducible surgical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform rodent and small animal surgeries, including but not limited to:
    • Catheterizations (jugular, femoral, carotid)
    • Telemetry implantations
    • Cannulations and specialized models
    • Maintain strict adherence to aseptic surgical technique
    • Ensure high-quality, consistent surgical outcomes
    • Collaborate with clients to support study design and execution
    • Train and support surgical technicians and junior staff
    • Troubleshoot procedures and adapt to varying research environments
    • Travel to client sites and integrate into existing workflows

Qualifications

  • Experience in laboratory animal surgery
  • Proven experience performing rodent surgical models
  • Strong understanding of preclinical research and study design
  • Demonstrated expertise in aseptic technique and anesthesia management
  • Ability to work independently and maintain consistency across studies
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills
  • Surgical Research Technician (SRT) or Surgical Research Specialist (SRS) certification preferred

Travel Requirements

  • Travel required (multi-day assignments)
  • Flexibility to support projects at multiple client locations
