5532Collective Excellence: The Power of Full Team Engagement in Surgical Success

Date: Wednesday, September 17, 2025
Time: 9:00 am CT
Duration: 360 Minutes
Room: NAMSA

In the treatment of various diseases requiring laminectomy, surgeons have been challenged with friable blood vessels, inadvertent dural defects/lacerations, along with dural defects with the intention of repair. Various products are introduced into the preclinical phase to address these issues. In this lab, attendees will be able to participate in a procedural laminectomy of the L3/L4 region using the traditional approach. Those participating will have the opportunity to assist or perform everything from initial incision to dissection of muscle from the spinous processes to resection of the spinous processes and exposure of the dural sac along with descending nerve roots. This challenging procedure will expose participants to the intricacies of a traditional laminectomy and/or durotomy.

In this lab, participants will learn techniques for performing craniotomies and craniectomies. These methods are commonly employed in procedures such as the implantation of DBS leads, the placement of BCI devices, the creation of dural defects, and various other neuro studies. Participants will have access to a range of instruments frequently used in neurosurgery.
