In this lab, participants will learn foundational microsurgery skills and how to implant telemetry devices to collect systemic blood pressure and ECG in the mouse. Participants will first learn basic microscope techniques and tissue handling via organ removal (e.g. nephrectomy, vasectomy) and targeted organ injection in the kidney. Then, participants will learn how to isolate the carotid artery and insert the blood pressure catheter, and they will learn how to secure the ECG leads in a modified lead II placement. Additionally, participants will learn best practices for catheter care, ECG lead preparation, explant method, and depth estimation for chronic patency.

The bus departs Embassy Suites promptly at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17th from the lobby. It will first drop off to DSI around 8 am for those wet labs and then drop off at NAMSA at around 8:30 am. The return bus to Embassy Suits will pickup at DSI at 3:00 pm and then pick up at NAMSA at approximately 3:30 pm.
